  40. duplex" on me, on its very own ... without me even doing anything.

  53. I sort of checked this out ... the horse and the driver ... but
  54. couldn't find any setting for "Duplex" in my communications program's
  55. menu.  (MacKermit 0-991(190) Pre-ALPHA).  Although I personally doubt
  56. that engineers at Columbia would be at fault on this, everything is
  57. well worth checking out.

  64. OK.  Here's what I tried to do.  I didn't fiddle with my term programs
  65. settings.  I don't really understand what they all do, in truth.

  67. In my Terminal window of Kermit, I entered AT&F1 to load the read-only
  68. factory configuration for hardware flow control, then ATS13=16 so that
  69. the Sportster auto-dials, and wrote that to NVRAM 0 template by
  70. entering AT&W0.

  73. below.

  103. with no trouble (showing that Kermit's settings are right with the
  104. modem's.

  107. with one bit of an S-register flagged, so that I can utilize the
  108. modem's "Auto Dial" feature.)

  129. got the "duplex" problem when I tried to log in.  I dropped to command
  130. mode and checked my settings using ATI4 ... which showed no apparent
  131. trouble.

  169. Stranger still ... when I returned online ... the problem had FIXED
  170. ITSELF.  Simply by entering ATO0, everything was "OK" again.

  172. With this turn of events, I tried a simple experiment, I let my modem
  173. auto dial by powering down, and then powering up ... dropped down to
  174. command mode and returned online...

  200. None of this makes any sense to me at all!!

  202. I can't understand how a modem that is simply dialing a number stored
  203. in NVRAM at "power on" doesn't behave as is expected when that same
  204. number is dialed manually (ATDSn).

  206. And I don't think my Term program is at fault here ... the settings
  207. and internals of MacKermit don't change when I power a modem up or
  208. down, although I suppose that the Kermit'ites are much better
  209. qualified to comment on that than I.

  212. strange when it does its own routines?  I'm absolutely stumped, here.
